Undersized queenies 'scandalous'

Fisheries Minister Phil Gawne says the discovery of large amounts of undersized queenies on the Island is "scandalous"

The shellfish were found during a random inspection of a factory in Peel on Thursday.

Whilst of a size which is legal in European waters, the queenies were at or below the Isle of Man minimum landings size of 50mm and many were unfit to process.

They had been taken by a dredge vessel fishing in Liverpool Bay, outside Manx territorial waters.

Mr Gawne says whilst he's powerless to stop such unsustainable fishing taking place there, he will do everything he can to ensure anyone transporting them through Manx waters will be prosecuted:
