Old Boys dent Laxey title bid

by isleofman.com 15th December 2012

Laxey’s quest for the Canada Life Premier League suffered a blow on Saturday.

They lost 4-2 at a muddy Blackberry Lane to miss the chance to go top.

In truth, the Miners never recovered from a strong first half display from Old Boys who raced into a 3-0 lead.

Lee Gartland, Darren Hudgeon, an own goal and a Craig Stewart penalty fired Brian Gartland’s team to a fine win.

Ashley Webster and Sean Kelly reduced the arrears for Laxey after the break but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.

St Mary’s maintained their own title hopes with an impressive 3-1 win at St John’s to gain revenge for their Railway Cup semi-final defeat at Mullen-e-Cloie a fortnight ago.

There was no doubting the star of the show as Steven Priestnal showed his class with a hat-trick.

Johnny Holland netted for the home side.

Rushen edged out Ramsey 2-1 at Croit Lowey, courtesy of goals from Jack Saxon and a Steve Riding penalty.

Michael Fernandez scored for the battling northerners but they slipped to defeat.

After their first win a week ago, bottom club Marown came back to earth with a bump.

They went down 6-0 at western rivals Peel.

Daniel Bell, Steve Tidy, talented youngster Rowan Richardson, Marc Kelly, Kerron Christian and Lee Gale were on target for Rick Holden’s side.
