Island TUC calls for compromise in bus dispute

Trade union leaders in the Island are urging both sides in the bus dispute to find a compromise before a planned walk-out by drivers later this week.

The Isle of Man Trades Union Council has pledged its support to members of Unite who've voted by a big majority in favour of a three-day strike from this Thursday (20 December).

TUC president Andrew Shipley says the union has tabled a series of proposals to help the Leisure department find the ?300,000 savings it needs while lessening the impact on drivers.

Unite says proposals to reduce drivers' hours will result in a pay cut of up to ?3,000 per year.

Mr Shipley who is also branch secrtary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, says negotiations in this dispute have proved disappointing:
