e gaming delegation holds round of EU meetings

A delegation from the Isle of Man has been in Brussels to champion the Island's on-line gambling sector.

Chief executive of the Gambling Supervision Commission Steve Brennan and Head of e-gaming at the Department of Economic Development Tim Craine held a series of meetings with EU law makers and Euroean trade associations.

Their message was that despite rapid growth of the sector, the Isle of Man is committed to high standards of consumer protection.

Mr Brennan says they had a positive reception from EU Commission staff, informing them about the importance of the sector the Island. E-gaming currently accounts for 8 per cent of GDP and supports around 700 jobs.

The visit was arranged by the Island's European Affairs Director Patrick Bourke based in the Manx government's permanent Brussels office.
