Health minister defends Island ban on legal high

The Health Minister has defended his decision to extend the ban of a so-called legal high for a second year.

It means the Isle of Man is the only place in the British Isles where MDAI is illegal.

The synthetic chemical was developed as an antidepressant and replicates the effects of ecstasy. The death of a Ramsey teenager in April last year was attributed to the drug at a coroner's inquest.

David Anderson acknowledges the decision to renew the ban goes against the advice of off-Island experts but he says de-criminalising it now would send mixed messages both to users and health professionals:
