by isleofman.com 18th December 2012

A student from St Ninian's High School has been named winner of a tough new business challenge for the Island's young people set by Douglas-based international law firm Appleby.

Seventeen year old Rebecca Bannister triumphed in the final of the 2012 Appleby Academy in which students present their business solution to a specific challenge and are questioned on it by a panel of judges.

Rebecca beat-off competition from students from all the Island's high schools with her presentation on an environmental policy for Appleby's Isle of Man office

She wins a paid summer placement at the firm next year.

The Appleby Academy was launched this autumn in conjunction with Junior Achievement, with the aim of giving students an insight into the business world and to inspire them to develop entrepreneurial skills.

Judges included JA's Sue Cook, Appleby's Nick Veradi and Chris Gledhill from PDMS.

The runners up were Ramsey Grammar School pupils Lee Braley and Jocelyn Hovareau.
