Over 450 children will receive toys this Christmas thanks to the efforts of the Salvation Army and the Isle of Man Bank. Collection points for toys have been set up across local branches of the Bank during recent weeks to make donations as easy as possible. The Toy Appeal collects gifts for all age ranges, from babies to young adults. The newly bought presents are deposited at collection points before being gathered, wrapped and labelled by volunteers. Referral agencies are then in charge of distributing the gifts to vulnerable children.
The annual Christmas Appeal by the Salvation Army includes various charitable events taking place including distributing food parcels, providing Christmas meals and the Toy Appeal. It is thought this year over 1800 people will benefit from the generosity of local donations. The charity responds to requests from various health and care organisations that refer families and individuals who may need help over the Christmas period.
Salvation Army Volunteer and Appeal ‘Captain’ Carolyn Clampton commented:
“We wish to express our heart felt appreciation for all the support given in the Isle of Man during the Christmas period. With regards to the Toy Appeal we are especially grateful to the Isle of Man Bank for their continued support and the enthusiastic involvement of their staff. Often these toys are given anonymously so it is impossible to thank everyone personally but we would like to reassure the public that every effort is made to help the most vulnerable in our community over the festive season.”
Deniese Smith, Senior Bank Manager at Isle of Man Bank, added:
“This is the eighth year the Bank has supported this initiative and we have been overwhelmed at the way the community have rallied round to support the Christmas Toy Appeal yet again.”
