Legislative Council nominations open soon

by isleofman.com 21st December 2012

Four seats on the Legislative Council will be up for grabs next year after elections were announced today.

Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan says a special sitting of the House of Keys will take place on Monday, March 18.

Four terms of office are due to expire – those of David Callister, Eddie Lowey, Juan Turner and Tony Wild.

Candidates need the support of 13 MHKs to be elected, and anybody can be nominated for the posts.

Nominations have not yet opened – Mr Speaker will issue a formal call for names to be put forward early next year.

A new guidance note has been released outlining important election dates and electoral procedures – you can find out more at tynwald.org.im

Nominations will be invited on Thursday, January 28 – the last time a seat was vacant on the Council, it took several rounds of voting before Tony Wild was voted in.

Members of the public can attend the Keys sitting to see the election as it takes place.
