Stay at home as floods wash over Island

by isleofman.com 22nd December 2012

The emergency services are asking motorists to stay at home for the time being unless your journey is absolutely necessary.

Torrential rain and high winds have left many of the Island’s roads under water and the fire service, police and civil defence volunteers are all out on call to flooded properties.

The Met Office says localised flooding is likely and the rain is set to continue until at least this afternoon.

Colby and Ballabeg are said to be badly hit by standing water Richmond Hill is shut, the Kewaigue Road between the ATS Roundabout and Cooil Roundabout has been closed as has the St Marks Road between Mullinaragher Road and Orrisdale Road junctions.

The Mountain Road is shut, Kentraugh Road and the Glen Darragh Road is closed, and the Fire Service says it's rescuing trapped drivers from their cars in Douglas.

The Old Castletown Road and the Ballacottier Roundabout are both closed.

Flooding has meant the Steam Railway is running from Ballasalla to Port Erin only.

A limited bus service is running between Douglas and Port Erin but other planned bus services will be affected.

A number of bus services are also affected by flooding. MER services between Laxey and Ramsey remain in operation but flooding at Groudle means services to Douglas are off.
