Police investigating sheep worrying incident

by isleofman.com 27th December 2012
The Southern Neighbourhood Policing Team are investigating an incident where between 11:30pm and 11:45pm on Saturday 22nd December 2012, a dog entered a field located on Black Hill, Crossag Road, Ballasalla and attacked and wounded a number of sheep in the area.  The field is located on the brow of Black Hill itself to the right as you travel towards St Marks.

The owner had to call the vet out to treat the sheep for injuries and shock.  There is serious concern that some of the sheep are ‘in lamb’ and that due to the distress that this caused to the sheep, their lambs could be miscarried.

Sgt Paul KEMP said, “We would appreciate any information in relation to this incident which has caused great concern to the owners just before Christmas as well as the distress to the sheep.  I would like to remind dog owners that it is an offence not to have a dog under control at all times, as it is for sheep worrying.  The fact that a dog usually responds to verbal commands or is perceived to be friendly is not sufficient.  Dogs should be on a short lead in the presence of other animals or members of the public as on both counts, dogs, especially when excitable, can be of great concern.”

If you have any information in relation to this dog or the owner please contact PC 276 Kieran Callister at Castletown Police Station on 822222.
