Honour for Hector

by isleofman.com 29th December 2012

A man who has been awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to the Manx veterans, community and education says he dedicates the award to his colleagues who used to work with him.

Hector Duff served under Montgomery during the last war in North Africa and went on to fight in Italy, Germany and France.

He was awarded the military medal for his bravery in helping colleagues whilst under heavy fire.

For the last 60 years he has supported the Island's veterans' community and has given countless talks and addresses at schools and institutions around the Island.

Mr Duff, chairman of the Normandy Veterans Association, says he still really enjoys his work with youngsters, even though his workload now is heavier than it has ever been.
