by isleofman.com 3rd January 2013

Last year was the second-wettest on record, the Met Office has confirmed.

The total rainfall recorded at Ronaldsway during 2012 was 1,114mm (almost 44 inches), well ahead of the long-term average of 864mm.

Since records began only 2002 has been wetter, when 4.2mm more fell.

With the exception of November last year, every month from June to December saw significantly more rain than usual.

The wettest day of 2012 was June 22 when 48.7mm, nearly two inches, fell.

In contrast, the earlier part of the year saw relatively mild conditions, with March being particularly warm, dry and sunny.

The hours of sunshine and mean wind speed were both just below the long-term mean.

There were 19 days of fog observed at Ronaldsway, 11 of hail, five of sleet and two days with thunderstorms.
