Festive drink drive arrests up on last year

by isleofman.com 4th January 2013

There were more arrests and more people charged with drink-driving over the festive period than the same time last year.

The Island's police force has released the statistics for its Christmas anti-drink drive campaign.

There were almost 200 less stops compared to last year.

Officers are putting that down to the bad weather and flooding in December, saying they prioritised keeping the roads safe during heavy traffic periods and dealing with hazardous road conditions.

Nineteen arrests were made over the festive period, of which 11 people were charged, five bailed and the other three released with no further action taken.

Seven of those charged have already been convicted and given bans of up to three years.

During the previous year's campaign 13 people were arrested, nine charged and two bailed.
