Gail and Niall gain gold

There were gold medals for two Island athletes at the 2013 Lancashire Cross Country Championships.

Gail Griffiths was the winner of the over 45 women's race, while Niall Caley won the under 11 boys event.

They were two of seven individual medals gained by local athletes.

Mike Garrett won a silver medal in the over 40 men's race, a feat equalled by Katie Astin in the under 15 girls and Megan Lockwood in the under 11 girls.

There were bronze medals for Caroline Mayers in the over 40 women and Helen Taylor in the over 35 women.

Nine local athletes are in line for possible inter counties selection following their performances.
