The Annual Commemorative Service to honour the memory of Sir William Hillary, the founder of the RNLI, was held yesterday (6th January) at St George’s Church, Douglas.
The service was led by the Archdeacon of Man, the Venerable Andrew Brown, with lessons read by the Deputy Governor, His Honour Deemster Doyle, and Michael Vlasto OBE, FRIN, FNI, RNLI Director of Operations.
As well as traditional sea faring hymns, there was a performance by the Mariners’ Choir, and a new innovation, a duet by Marlene Hendy and Dylis Sowery which was very well received.
After the service the congregation re-assembled outside the Church at the tomb of Sir William and Lady Hillary where, after a short address by the Archdeacon, Mr Vlasto laid the wreath.
