Police investigating House fire in Port Erin

by isleofman.com 7th January 2013

Police and Fire crews from Douglas, Castletown and Port Erin attended a house fire in a derelict property on Bay View Road, Port Erin at approximately 10.15pm on Friday 4th January 2013.  Initial indications are that the source of the fire was in the basement of the building at the rear, although Police and Fire investigators will be carrying out further enquiries in the next few days.  The building suffered significant smoke and structural damage and as a result Fire crews and Police were in attendance for over 3 hours and a road closure was put in place.

The building itself is known as a place where local youths have gained access to in the past and Police would like to speak to anyone who may have any information to identify the persons responsible for starting the fire last night.

In this instance it appears as though nobody has been hurt but it is a timely reminder to the public that derelict buildings present a significant danger and should not be entered for any reason.

Anybody with any information should contact Police Headquarters on 631212 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
