Local authorities face further waste costs

Ratepayers could be in for further rate hikes in coming years as government passes on the full costs of the incinerator to local authorities.

So says chairman of the Island’s Municipal Association David Talbot after the government scrapped its subsidy for waste management.

The cost of taking rubbish to the energy from waste plant may now be passed on to the Island’s ratepayers as the price per tonne goes up.

But Mr Talbot says there could be more bad news to come:
