Archery Club Report

by isleofman.com 9th January 2013

The IoM Archery Club met on Sunday for the first shoot of the New Year. The round was a Portsmouth shot as part of the Club’s Scratch League. The Christmas break had clearly worked wonders for a number of archers as six personal bests were recorded over the course of the day.

In the gents Compound Colin Moore added five points to his pb, while Frank Vaughan added 3 points to his. However the fight for the top spot on the podium was between Dave Moore and Pete Mumford. Mumford had a one point lead after the first dozen but Moore turned that around at the end of the second and began to get away from Mumford over the next two dozen. It looked to be a stroll in the park for Moore but two of his arrows strayed out of the gold at the same time as Mumford finished strongly leaving both men on the same score of 569. Dave Moore edged the victory on count back registering 33 golds to Mumford’s 31.

The highest score of the day however went to lone female compound archer Sarah Rigby with a score of 572.

The Recurve archers were also on good form on Sunday. Tony Hartley was in fine fettle and took the win by a country mile.  Karen Lott added two points to her pb, while husband Rob added four points to his to break the 500 barrier for the first time. Dave Dougherty marked his return to competition by adding 23 points to his personal best. It was newcomer Ian Harris who made the most improvement on the day however, adding a terrific 99 points to his pb to join Rob in making the 500 landmark.
