Dust off your running shoes this New Year!

Celton Manx is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the Easter Festival of Running 2013 and is encouraging everyone to get involved!

The Festival, previously known as the Isle of Man Easter Athletics Festival, is organised by the Manx Harriers and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012. It is hoped that the change in the name of the event will reflect that the races, which take place over the three-day Easter weekend, are open to anyone wishing to compete and not just elite or regular club runners.

The Festival begins with a 10km road race starting and finishing on Port Erin Promenade on the evening of Good Friday.  This is then followed by races throughout Easter weekend, including a race on Peel Hill, a 4 x 5km relay for men and a 5km women’s race on Douglas Promenade.

Executive Director of Celton Manx, Bill Mummery said: ‘At this time of year our thoughts are turning to our New Year’s resolutions and our goals and hopes for the year ahead. In the past we have all vowed to get fitter or lose weight after an overindulgent Christmas and New Year, only to fall foul of the left over chocolates two weeks in! It’s time to set a goal to help you stick to your resolution; there are 11 weeks until the festival which will give even the rustiest runner time to train and achieve their goal. So blow the cobwebs off and get training!’

Dave Ronan of the organising committee said: ‘This is an incredibly popular event, becoming an annual ritual for some including many people from the UK and further afield. We want this year’s Festival to be the biggest and best yet, with a selection of distances and hill running, we are sure that there will be something for everyone. We would like to thank Celton Manx for its support of the Festival and we are looking forward to a busy and successful weekend.’

After all that hard work you might feel like letting your hair down, it isn’t all just about the running! The Festival promises to uphold its reputation as a social event as well, as the weekend concludes with a prize presentation and a party on Easter Sunday evening.

Entries can be made by post by downloading a form from the Festival website at www.easterfestival.info, or online via www.manxtreme.com.
