Douglas win at Marple

by isleofman.com 12th January 2013

Douglas picked up a bonus point 39-7 win away at Marple to keep their promotion push on course in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two.

A try and a penalty from skipper Scott Goodall gave Douglas an 8-0 half-time lead and they finally hit their straps in the second half when they ran in a further five tries.

Rob Todd, Steve Tansell, Carl Markle-Ferns, Mike Hebden and Craig McGee all crossed for Douglas with Bryn Snellgrove adding three conversions.

Another workmanlike performance gave Vagabonds their second win of 2013 when they beat Southport 24-3 at Ballafletcher.

Vagas led 7-3 at half-time, courtesy of a try from Sam Liver and a conversion from Mark McGreal.

Second half tries from Rob Martin and Sam Brennan earned Vagas a bonus point, with Aidan O’Shea completing the scorecard with a conversion.

Ramsey lost 26-29 at home to leaders Sefton but came within a whisker of causing an upset.

They did, however, pick up two crucial bonus points in the process and, with other results going their way, gained two league places.

Ramsey led 21-12 at half-time through tries from John F. Watling, Tynan Pritchard and Mark Oldfield, plus two penalties, one from Fintan Cummins and the other from Andy Cleator.

Sefton kept themselves in the hunt with two tries from right wing Steve Johnson, plus a conversion from Dave Almond.

Sefton came back into the game in the second half with tries from Andy Scully and Almond.

Will Wren pulled one back for Ramsey before David Chiocchi’s late try sealed it for Sefton, with Almond adding another conversion.
