An inspirational young Manxman has been named Young Sailor of the Year for the north-west.

Greg Kelly was presented with the prestigious RYA North West Region Award 2012 at the Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show on Saturday.

The award recognises the outstanding achievements of youth sailors and powerboaters across the country.

'I am delighted with the award,' said Greg who has been sailing for six years.

Greg was recognised for his achievements in the RS Tera class of dinghy in which the 14 year-old won the World Championship for his class, competing in Italy.

He also took UK Inland Championship.

He intends to move up to more senior boats in the coming years, gaining experience in different classes and winning more events while still helping with the training of younger sailors in RS Teras.

The awards were presented by Bob Fisher, Chairman of the Yachting Journalists Association (YJA).
