Samaritans Isle of Man will be holding information evenings for anyone interested in becoming volunteers.  The local charity has vacancies for listening volunteers to help in providing emotional support to those in distress, despair or feeling suicidal.

The following information sessions will be held over the next few weeks:

17 January 2013 – Castle Rushen High School – 6 to 7 pm
25 January 2013 – QE2 High School – 6 to 7 pm
1 February 2013 – Ramsey Grammar School – 6:30 to 7:30 pm

Volunteers are asked to commit to one four hour shift a week and will receive full training and ongoing support and mentoring.

The Samaritans have been serving the Island’s community for over 30 years providing confidential non-judgemental emotional support, 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide.  The overall Samaritans movement includes over 500,000 contacts by phone.   Samaritans Isle of Man has 70 volunteers from all walks of life and from all age groups, who primarily offer a telephone based listening service from the centre in Victoria Place, Douglas.  The Samaritans are available 24/7 by phone on 01624 66 33 99 or email at jo@samaritans.org.
