Election pledges can't be guaranteed, says Crookall

Ministers change, and so do guarantees.

Education Minister Tim Crookall's comment came after he withdrew a motion in Tynwald last night to start making Manx students pay towards their university tuition fees.

A revised version of the proposals will be brought before the court next month.

During last night's debate, when it still looked like there would be a vote, South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft reminded members of their general election pledges from 16 months ago.

Speaking to James Davis after the debate, Mr Crookall tried to defend those who'd committed themselves to protecting tuition fees in their manifestos:
