Bus drivers to strike this afternoon

by isleofman.com 17th January 2013

Bus drivers are taking part in a second round of industrial action today as the long-running bus dispute rumbles on.

Drivers walked out for three days in the run up to Christmas.

Today they will walk out between 1pm and 6pm, in the ongoing disagreement over working conditions and pay.

The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure has confirmed that the Manx Electric Railway and Isle of Man Steam Railway will be in operation again during the time of the strike.

The steam railway will commence at 12:50pm and the MER timetable begins at 1.10pm.

The DCCL says no-one will be left stranded.

Director of Public Transport Ian Longworth says he believes the timing of today's strike has again been chosen to cause major disruption.

He says bus drivers who would be scheduled to be out of the depot as the strike begins will have their buses taken over at Banks Circus before they head out again: (play audio)

Full timetables for the revised services are available at the Welcome Centre (call 662525) and online at iombusandrail.info and cf.gov.im.
