Civic reception for Big Tidy Up volunteers

by isleofman.com 17th January 2013

Douglas Mayor Councillor David Ashford has hosted a reception to thank volunteers who took part in the 2012 Big Tidy Up all-Island challenge.

Held over the weekend of Friday September 28th to Sunday September 30th last year the event saw councillors and officers of Douglas Borough Council, lead body for the campaign, joined by schools, volunteer groups, local businesses and private individuals to target many of the Island’s litter hot-spots.

The Mayor said the campaign had proved ‘a fantastic event’ that attracted more than 900 volunteers, resulting in some 1.9 tonnes of litter collected and he praised the efforts, in particular, of the many schools that had participated in the campaign.
