Schools will be open tomorrow

by isleofman.com 17th January 2013

Schools around the Island will be open as usual tomorrow (Fri)

The decision has been taken this afternoon after a meeting between officials from the Department of Education and Children, the Met Office, the Isle of Man Constabulary and the Department of Infrastructure.

Head of Legal and Administrative Services John Gill says while the pattern of tomorrow’s snowfall remains hard to predict, it is thought that the worst of the snowfall will occur after the normal school closing time. He adds that it is always very difficult weighing up whether or not schools should be closed and the considerable inconvenience to children, their parents and employers of doing so is appreciated. However, safety is paramount.

The situation will continue to be reviewed through the evening and overnight and parents will be advised via the media and via the department's own website and Twitter feed, should there be any need to close schools.
