Former Island captain Nigel Shimmin has given Marown a glimmer of hope in their bid to beat the drop.

He scored the only goal as the Canada Life Premier League’s bottom club won 1-0 at Corinthians on Saturday to give themselves a top flight lifeline.

It was their second victory of the season.

St Mary’s moved up to second after a 7-1 romp at Union Mills.

A Steve Whitley hat-trick, Steven Priestnal double and goals from Tom Weir and Marc Priestnal sealed the points.

Matty Cain notched the Milers’ consolation from the penalty spot.

St John’s maintained their fine season with a 3-1 win at Rushen, thanks to goals from Steve Glover (two) and Anthony Moore.

Jack Saxon netted for the home side.

Peel thrashed Castletown 11-1 at Douglas Road.

Marc Kelly led the way with a hat-trick.

Kerron Christian (two), Daniel Bell, Andy Quirk, Lee Gale (two), Rowan Richardson and Matthew Woods were also on target for the westerners.

Alex Crawley scored the Town consolation.

In the only GH Corlett Woods Cup preliminary round tie to survive the weather, Ayre United showed no mercy to lowly Malew.

A Jason Craine hat-trick, James Teare double and goals from Mark Cain and Chris Duggan secured the Tangerines a last eight spot.
