A Manx school has put the Isle of Man on the future energies global stage.
Queen Elizabeth II High School in Peel came second in the European section of the Zayed Future Energy Prize, seen as the Nobel Prize for sustainable development.
Three representatives from the school have just returned from an all-expenses paid trip to Abu Dhabi where they attended the opening ceremony of the World Future Energy Summit.
Key speakers included the Queen of Jordan, the Presidents of Iceland, France and Argentina and the royal families from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Over the three days of their visit, the QEII team gave a presentation at a local school and visited sites such as the Masdar Institute, an innovative university specialising in sustainable technologies.
Head Sue Moore said whilst most people they had met had not heard of the Isle of Man, they were very interested to hear about its unique position and the environmental work the school has been doing.
The team from QEII returned with the message the Isle of Man must start now to invest in sustainable technologies which are already being extensively used by forward thinking nations.
They hope to be able to continue with their dream to be the first school on the island to be heated entirely from sustainable energy sources.
