Care review for breast cancer patients

by isleofman.com 21st January 2013

More than 20 breast cancer patients on the Island are having their cases reviewed.

Medical Director at Noble’s Hospital Stephen Upsdell says there’s a problem with tissue hormone testing which is done as doctors consider the best treatment for each patient.

He says 22 patients have been identified as being affected and they’ll all be contacted directly by the Hospital.

A statement from the Department of Health stresses there is no issue with diagnosis of breast cancer 'which is correct in all cases' but with the plan for treatment for individuals.

The department says by the end of its review more patients are likely to be identified as needing their cases reviewed, and they too will be contacted and invited to attend a clinic appointment with the Breast Care Team.

Patients requiring further information can contact a hotline number 651300 between 9am and 6pm.
