Plans to elect MLCs defeated

David Callister MLC is now resigned to leaving the Legislative Council at the end of next month without achieving the main thing he wanted to do during his term.

His attempt to bring in legislation for a democratically elected LegCo was defeated 5-3 at the clauses stage by his fellow MLCs.

Phil Braidwood, Alex Downie, Eddie Lowey, Juan Turner and Tony Wilde all voted against the proposal.

Mr Callister says it was a change of mind by Mr Wilde which really tipped the balance:
