Delegate who successfully completed a course to help their organisations become more energy efficient were presented with their certificates today.
The Certificate in Energy Management Principles course was jointly subsidised by the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture. It was specifically designed to provide new ideas and approaches to professionals in the public and private sector with responsibility for energy management within their organisations.
The course supports two of the Department of Economic Development’s policy aims which are to assist Isle of Man organisations and businesses to secure the efficient use of affordable energy and to minimise the impact of its use on the environment through training and networking.
Laurence Skelly MHK, Political Member for the Department of Economic Development with responsibility for the Clean Tech sector, said: ‘All organisations on the Island are affected by rising energy costs and I am therefore delighted that so many of our local organisations participated in this training course. The Department of Economic Development is committed to helping businesses work towards a more sustainable future and we see the encouragement of energy efficiency in businesses as vital.’
Dr Ken Milne, Senior Manager for Energy Policy at the Department of Economic Development, said: ‘This course is designed to give support to those individuals responsible for energy management within an organisation. Energy management is key to helping improve energy efficiency and there is no doubt that this valuable course will help organisations to develop work-based learning and work-related skills. I would also like to acknowledge and thank Swagelok Limited for the use of their premises to undertake the training.’
Among the course delegates were three employees from Swagelok Limited. General Manager, David Hester, said: ‘Swagelok was pleased to be able to support this initiative. In a manufacturing unit with over 200 people and dozens of complex machines, we are always looking for ways to improve our energy efficiency, reduce costs and apply best practice. We have a ‘Green Team’ in place which is always seeking to learn from others and play close attention to preserving a clean and safe environment.’
