Salon 3 staff aiming to be a cut above the competition

by isleofman.com 25th January 2013
Two hairdressers from one of the Isle of Man’s leading salons will do battle this weekend to try and be named within the Top 6 young stylists in the British Isles.

Rebecca Marran and Natalie Skelly, both Stylists at Salon 3 in Douglas, have already beaten one selection process in the Schwarzkopf ‘Young Artistic Team’ 2013 competition; on Sunday (27 January) they will go head to head with the final 40 in London to try and secure their place on one of the most prestigious hairdresser training programmes in existence.
Schwarzkopf’s ‘Young Artistic Team’ programme is open to any hairdressers aged between 16 and 25 who work for a Schwarzkopf-affiliated salon. It is entered by thousands of stylists every year – the final six receive one year’s worth of intensive training from some of the world’s leading hairdressing trainers to develop their all-round styling and trend-interpretation skills, which culminates in an individual photoshoot where they create new looks for their models and demonstrate everything they have learned. This year is the first time Salon 3 has entered the competition.

The first selection process involves taking a model, without their hair or make-up done, and demonstrating on paper how they would create a new look for them. This Sunday, Rebecca and Natalie must create that look which encompasses hair, make-up and clothing, and deliver a five-minute presentation to the judges on their work.

Rebecca, 19, and Natalie, 18, have spent the last six months preparing for the competition and have been mentored by their colleagues, Senior Stylists and Trainers Amy McDowell and Erin Bray, and Salon 3’s Creative Directors, Janet Lancaster and Yvonne Karran.
Amy commented: “The looks created by Rebecca and Natalie are entirely their own and they have put an incredible amount of work in over the last six months in preparation, so to be selected for the final 40 is really testament to their dedication as well as the investment in staff training provided by Janet and Yvonne. We are so proud of them for getting this far, and have our fingers crossed they will be selected for the Schwarzkopf ‘Young Artistic Team’ 2013.

“We really want to get as much exposure for the incredibly talented hairdressers who work for Salon 3 and showcase their work, and put the Isle of Man on the hairdressing map. One or both of them being named within the top six young stylists in the British Isles will certainly do that!”
