Are you an idiot driver?

You may have a smartphone, but are you an idiot driver?

That’s the question being posed by police and the Department of Infrastructure after they joined forces to launch a new information campaign.

Smart Phone Idiot Driver is aimed at people who still use hand held mobile phones while driving.

Alongside notice boards and advertising from the DoI’s road safety team, police will be on the lookout for people using their phones on the roads.

Police are reminding people they can be fined up to ?2,500 and receive four penalty points on their licence if caught.

The Department of Infrastructure says it’s using publicity posters to tackle areas where the problems seem most prevalent.

It’s also urging businesses to download the posters from the department’s website and put them on noticeboards in work.

The mobile billboards will be placed at key locations throughout the campaign.
