With all the snow that is causing problems in some parts of the island, but not in Laxey, now is the time to think about the summer!
So for your information here is the programme of LTA Sanctioned events at the club for the whole of this year. I’m asking every member to think about entering at least one event senior, junior or Mini Tennis. A club thrives if it has friendly but healthy competition which gives members the opportunity to meet others. Social tennis, which is also important, does tend to keep members in groups. Note that this year the club will be hosting the IOMLTA Senior Championships and we will need helpers in providing refreshments, as well as entries. So please put these dates in your diary, planner or pin this list up on the wall and make a late New Year Resolution to enter.
April 13–20 Junior Open sponsored by Nedgroup Investments (IOM) Ltd;
June 15–23 IOMLTA Senior Closed Championships;
July 6- 13(14) Junior Open sponsored by Equiom Trust Company Ltd;
August 3–11 Chrystals Senior Open – Sponsored by Chrystals Estate Agents;
August 24- 31 Albany Closed Championships Senior, Junior and Min;
September 15 President’s Day – Senior/Junior closed;
October 26 – 2 November Junior Open sponsored by Auxesia Ltd.
There will also be Mini Tennis and yellow ball events throughout the year but not one in February. All are entry on line or paper entry and entries close a week before the opening day. The club is to receive a difibrilator from the Craig Heart Foundation and St John’s Ambulance will be offering members the 4hour training course. This is likely to be a Saturday or Sunday morning in February. When I have the possible dates/times members will receive an e-mail inviting them to put their name forward.
Don’t forget to book your team into the Annual Quiz which will be held on Friday 8th February. Contact Jackie Clague clague@tinyworld.co.uk. This is a fund-raiser for the project of insulating the indoor court and I’m sure we all realise how welcome that would be.
Don’t forget that the IOMLTA are holding a Level 1 course in the indoor court on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 8 –10 February from 9am – 5pm each day. Therefore the indoor court is not available during those times.
