Nuclear dump plan dumped

by isleofman.com 30th January 2013

Plans for a nuclear dump on the Island’s doorstep have been thrown out by Cumbria County Council.

A ?12 billion underground facility was being looked at to store the UK’s nuclear waste – with one possible site being the Solway Firth.

Today, however, the County Council said Cumbria’s geology would make it impossible to guarantee its safety for the required million years.

Helen Davison is a local resident who’d campaigned against the plans.
