Toomraiders 40 v Route 1 Connections 41 by Claire Belcher Smith
Route 1 took to the court with only 6 players so this game should have been Toomraiders, however the Route1 girls proved very strong contesting every ball. A very close game throughout, Toomraiders crept ahead in the first quarter, with Alex McPherson and Lynsey Smith working well in their shooting circle. Route 1’s Paige Skillicorn and Ali Haddow worked equally hard in the second quarter complemented by some fine shooting from Fiona Clark-Wilson and Kat Keeling ensuring the Route 1 Girls were 1 goal ahead going into the second half. It was all to play for from there and both sides pushed hard.
Both teams defense worked tirelessly, Paige Skillicorn getting some vital interceptions and the same at the other end with Rachael Burge putting plenty of pressure on the Route 1 shooters. This could have been anyone's game, but Route 1 came out on top with the win. Player of the match for Route1 was Paige Skillicorn and Rachael Burge for Toomraiders.
C&S Joinery C 26 v Pokerstars 23 by Claire Belcher Smith
Pokerstars took to the court looking like they wanted the win and started very strong. Kaytie Debnam and Natalie Christian linked well mid-court feeding their shooters with vital balls and Becca Cubbon didn't let her side down when converting goals. The first quarter saw Pokerstars up 4 goals and C&S only managed 2. The second quarter saw the C&S girls up their game with some impressive interceptions by Jess Newby.which enabled her side to pass the ball down the court with ease. Holly Armstrong, who was out of position linked really well with Aalish Bridson and managed to get 1 goal ahead going into the second half of the game. Pokerstars made a few changes which made the C&S girls think, but this did not stop them demonstrate some great defensive work as Megan Howland and Clare Mcloughlin enabled the girls to pull slightly ahead. The last quarter saw the Pokerstars come out determined to win. Debnam worked really hard mid court but despite her efforts, the C&S girls kept their heads and played really well, Newby showing her skill time and time again throughout the game earning a well deserved Player of the match for C&S as did Kaytie Debnam for Pokerstars.
Great weekend again for C&S girls with 3 wins from A, C and D, the B Team only losing out to the A Team which was expected. All teams played really well this weekend, well done.
Team DQ Hurricanes 19 v PwC Manx Gems Emeralds 20 by Jennie Walden
Team DQ Hurricanes turned over the first centre of the game and until half time that was the only difference between the two teams. Some fantastic interceptions by all players kept this game flowing from end to end with the first half ending 10-9 in Hurricanes’ favour.
In the third quarter Team DQ continued to play to their high standard while errors crept into the PwC Emeralds game. Team DQ capitalised on this and took a four goal advantage into the last quarter. PWC Emeralds started the fourth quarter with determination and this showed by some free flowing netball down the court and levelled the game at 19 all. Both teams lost a little focus as the game became a little scrappy. With only a few minutes left to play and from the sounds coming off court, frustration was appearing in both teams. PwC Emeralds managed to just get that extra goal required and held on long enough to take the win. Player of the Match for Team DQ Hurricanes was Rebecca Harding and Sarah Curphey for PwC Manx Gems Emeralds.
