Korean games to be re-named in Gareth's honour

by isleofman.com 31st January 2013

The International Organising Committee of the Special Olympics has decided to rename the World Winter Games in South Korea following the tragic death of a Manx competitor.

Gareth Cowin passed away yesterday (Wed) after contracting a deadly virus during the trip.

This year's event will now be known as "Gareth's Games" in his memory.

Ribbons are being produced for athletes from countries across the world to wear during the closing ceremony.

Gareth was one of sixteen competitors representing the Isle of Man in the Far East.
