Five in a row for Nomads!

by isleofman.com 2nd February 2013

Southern Nomads have clinched the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield again.

A late penalty from Mark Young earned them an 8-7 win at rivals Douglas B to secure the title for the fifth year in a row.

Leon Landels had put them ahead with a 38th minute try just before half-time but Douglas replied after the break through Rob Todd and then led when his try was converted by Luke Hyland.

However, Young had the last laugh to trigger celebrations for Nomads.

There was similar drama in the Manx Cup preliminary round as a last-gasp penalty from captain Mike Sheeley gave Western Vikings a 20-17 win over Castletown.

Vikings led 5-0 at half-time through a Chris Williamson try, a lead extended after the break courtesy of two tries from Martin French and a conversion from Tony Grundy.

However, Town then hit back from 17-0 down.

Tries from Mike Condra, Lee McIvor and one from Gary Stephenson pulled them close and a Stephenson conversion drew them level only for Sheeley to win it for Vikings.

Vagabonds B were too strong for Emerging Nomads as they ran out 62-13 winners in the Manx Plate preliminary round.
