Council invites horse tram sponsorship

by isleofman.com 4th February 2013

Local businesses are being invited to partner with Douglas Borough Council and support the horse tram service.

The move follows worldwide growing interest in this unique service, now in its 137th year of operation.

Regeneration and community advisory committee lead member Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ‘The horse tram service continues to attract not only local and international fans of vintage transport but also film crews from the UK and further afield.

‘In recent years the Council has been pleased to have partnered with local companies when organising large-scale events as, along with welcome financial support, partnership working brings new perspectives and new ideas. It is against this background that the Council is extending this invitation to become involved with what is acknowledged as the oldest horse-drawn tramway in the world still in regular service.’

Expressions of interest, to be received by 5pm on Friday, February 8th 2013, should be addressed to Ms K.J Rice, Chief Executive Douglas Borough Council, Town Hall, Ridgeway Street, Douglas, IM99 1AD.

The 2013 horse tram service will start on Monday May 13th and finish on Sunday September 15th. Daily operating times will be 9am from the Strathallan terminus, finishing at 6pm. (Last tram from Sea Terminal departs 5.40pm).
