An inquest into the death of a Douglas woman who died a day after being discharged from hospital continues this morning
Thirty-seven year old Christina Collister spent 16 days in Noble's with leg injuries after being hit by a car outside Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club in November 2011.
She suffered breathing difficulties at home on the 25th November, the day after leaving hospital, and died that day from a pulmonary embolism.
Pathologist Dr Christopher Clague said it wasn't uncommon for patients suffering leg trauma injuries to suffer blood clots after treatment, although the inquest was told Mrs Collister had been given medication to prevent that happening.
Yesterday the inquest heard from Joshua Brown, the driver of the car which struck Mrs Collister who was seventeen at the time of the incident.
Mr Brown said his car had slid in the wet and muddy conditions on the corner of the access road between the corner of the access road which runs between the Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club and the Bowl car park in Douglas.
He lost control then in trying to correct the slide he hit Mrs Collister who was knocked into the river.
The inquest also heard that on the morning of the accident, Mr Brown had attended court to face charges of drink driving and driving without due care and attention. He was later convicted of these charges.
