Alternative Investment Scam

by isleofman.com 8th February 2013
The OFT is warning consumers of a potential new “scam” which has recently been brought to its attention.

Consumers receive a telephone call offering an “alternative investment” which claims to take the form of coloured diamonds.  The caller is very convincing and very persistent.  The concept is that the diamonds are rare and therefore must only increase in value.  It all sounds very compelling and the consumer is then directed to a website providing further details which, again, looks very professional.

Consumers are warned to be suspicious of any sort of unsolicited email, letter or phone call even if they are being offered something that appears to be of interest to them.

If consumers have lost money as a result of any such scams they are urged to cease contact with the perpetrator immediately and contact the local police on 631212.

Anyone who receives a call of this nature can contact the OFT for further advice on 686500.
