ATL welcomes proposed changes over Secondary School teachers work permits

by isleofman.com 11th February 2013
The ATL Isle of Man branch welcomes the proposal from the Department of Economic Development to bring forward an order which will add secondary school teachers to the list of jobs which are exempt from the requirement to have a work permit in the Isle of Man.

Andrew Shipley, Branch Secretary of the ATL believes that this is a necessary move in the light of difficulties in attracting specialist secondary school teachers to positions in the Isle of Man.  “The issue of work permits has caused concern and upset, as well as uncertainty in the past", says Mr Shipley. "This move will allow schools to appoint the best person for the job at interview, without a period of not knowing what will happen. It also removes uncertainty if the situation changes slightly. I hope that members of Tynwald will support this move".
