Climb Kilimanjaro without leaving the Island!

by isleofman.com 14th February 2013

Charity fundraisers have a chance to scale the height of Mount Kilimanjaro right here in the Isle of Man. The Children’s Centre, in conjunction with Hot rocks Climbing Wall, are organising the charity event which is ideal for anyone who wants to try climbing for the first time, or for more experienced climbers who just want to help raise funds for charity.

It all takes place at the Hot Rocks Climbing Wall at 4B Middle River Industrial Estate, Douglas, on Sunday March 24th from 9.00 am to 9:00 pm. The challenge is to attempt to climb the equivalent height of Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 metres) in just 12hours. Kilimanjaro is an appropriate choice as The Children’s Centre organised a very successful fundraising trek to the mountain in 2010 and is running a similar expedition this year.

Mark Eastham, Adventure Events Fundraising Co-ordinator at The Children’s Centre, thanked staff at Hot Rocks Climbing Wall for their assistance with the event and added:

“This challenge is perfect for anyone who has always had an ambition to have a go at climbing. All those who take part will receive expert tuition and guidance. It promises to be a fun and rewarding day for everyone who takes part. We are appealing for both young and old to sign up to climb a section of the mountain. No previous climbing experience in required and there is no age limit - the only thing we request is a head for heights and the desire to raise money for a local charity. It’s going to be a tough challenge but we hope that the climbing community, and those who want to try climbing for the first time, get take part. Hot Rocks is a fantastic climbing wall with climbs for all abilities and we are very grateful for their support.”

All funds raised will go towards The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects which help families and children across the Island. To sign up for the event organisers require a ?10 deposit and a pledge to raise a minimum of ?10 in sponsorship.
