Change to lone parent support must be done sensitively

by isleofman.com 17th February 2013

The Social Care Minister says sensitivity will be key in plans to introduce a new welfare reform.

If approved by Tynwald next month, measures will be brought in requiring single parents with children aged 12 and over to look for work or risk losing benefits.

Under the new rules, lone parents in this category will be switched from Income Support to the tougher system of Jobseeker's Allowance.

Minister Chris Robertshaw says the department will write to all those affected by these changes.
