MEA scandal could have been avoided

by isleofman.com 18th February 2013

The Manx Electricity Authority loans scandal could have been avoided.

That's the belief of the Chairman of the Select Committee which has been investigating the issue for several years.

It was looking into how the Authority managed to make additional borrowings of ?120 million which were unauthorised by Treasury.

The committee's final report was published a week ago and will be discussed by Tynwald this week.

Speaker of the Keys Steve Rodan has chaired the committee since 2007.

He says the current financial position of the MEA doesn't make pleasant reading.
