Isle of Man Archery Club Report - 17th February

by isleofman.com 19th February 2013

The IoM Archery Club met on Sunday to shoot a Worcester round as part of the Scratch League. Standards were generally high, with no less than eleven archers setting personal best scores. The Worcester round is shot on a black and white target face, scoring from 5 down to 1. Five arrows are shot per end and the maximum score is 300.

The Gents Recurve had the largest field with six archers competing of whom only one did not achieve a personal best score on the day. Bod Boland added 19 points to his pb only to be pushed into second place by Mat Smith. Rob Lott then took the third spot on the podium by one point from Adrian Breed. Mark Rutherford shooting his first Worcester round came in fifth, which left Ian Harris in last place.

In the Ladies Recurve, Karen Lott added 1 point to her pb but Barbara Harris did just enough to take the round.

The Gents Compound was a close run thing between Pete Mumford and Dave and Colin Moore. After 40 arrows Mumford had a one point lead over Colin and Dave who were tied on 197. Dave Moore then had a miss which allowed Colin to consolidate second place. Pete Mumford dropped only three points over the whole round to take the win. Billy Lightfoot who also had a miss came in fourth.

The Juniors also displayed some fine shooting. Adam Wright added 27 to his pb to finish only two points behind the unstoppable Bradley Layton. Charlotte Harris added 65 points to her pb to take the win from Rachel Rutherford who was shooting the round for the first time.
The story of the day however, belongs to Sarah Rigby shooting in the Ladies Compound event.
Forced out of the Club Championships last week for medical reasons, Sarah returned on Sunday to shoot a perfect round of 300. Keen to make up for lost shooting time Sarah elected to carry on into the afternoon session and shoot a Double Worcester. As she hit the centre of her target time after time, other archers found it hard to concentrate on their own arrows out of concern for hers. There was mingled relief and delight when the last arrow went home and Rigby completed another perfect score to set a club record for the Double Worcester of 120 600 120.
