Magic spells will be heard at the Youth Arts Centre in Douglas when the Young Magicians of Mann and Youth Events stage their annual magic show on the afternoon of Sunday, 17th March. This year the show called ABRAcadabra features ten of the young magicians, two of whom are making their debut appearances with the club. The club celebrated it’s 25th Anniversary last year, and those who saw their celebration sell-out show at the Gaiety Theatre in September will know that the island is lucky to have such talented young people. Three members of The Magic Circle - Mike Clague, Lexi Watterson and Paul Martin - organize the club, which meets at the Youth Arts Centre on Wednesday evenings.
Mike explained “Rehearsals are well underway for what will be a great afternoon out for all the family, with lots of fun as well as a number of our amazing illusions.” He added “the Youth Arts Centre is a terrific venue, with raked seating so everyone gets a good view of the action. The sound and lighting systems at the Centre are great, and will be under the direction of Martin Macfarlane and Paul Ellison. They recently ran a certificated Sound and Lighting Technician course for young people at the Centre, and have supported the Department of Education and Children’s Youth Service and the Young Magicians of Mann for many years.”
Lexi, who was a member of the Young Magicians of Mann before studying Law and returning to the island as a Trainee Lawyer, said “There’s a lot of interest in magic at the moment, partly thanks to the success of Dynamo on his TV shows. Seeing magic on television is good, but experiencing it live is much, much better!”
All tickets cost ?5 and are available from the Youth Office, tel. 686057 during office hours. Messages can be left on tel. 878328 during evenings and weekends. It’s advisable to book tickets early, as the show usually sells out and tickets may not be available on the door!
