Peel Road scheme given green light by Tynwald

Tynwald this afternoon approved spending ?4.6 million on one of the main routes into and out of Douglas.

But the scheme for Peel Road was not without its opponents.

Rushen MHK Lawrence Skelly rose during the Tynwald debate on the matter to say he felt it was too expensive, and showed a bias towards schemes in Douglas, when added to other ones planned for the capital.

The Department of Infrastructure's project could last up to 80 weeks and will reconstruct the section from the Brown Bobby to the Quarterbridge from the foundations up.

Addressing the court, Mr Skelly explained his reservations: (play audio)

At around 3.20pm Tynwald approved the spending - 19 votes for and four against in the House of Keys and eight for and one against in the Legislative Council.
