The Department of Education and Children is pleased to announce that Anna Jackson has been appointed headteacher of Peel Clothworkers’ Primary School with effect from September 2013.
 
Mrs Jackson succeeds Simon Jones, who has led the school for four years and who retires in the summer after 31 years in teaching, 23 of them as a headteacher.
 
Manx raised and educated, Mrs Jackson graduated from Edge Hill University College with a specialist degree in primary education. She started her teaching career at St Mary’s RC Primary School in Douglas and then moved to Ballacottier Primary School, becoming its acting deputy headteacher after two years. Four years’ leadership and management training prepared Mrs Jackson for the next step in her career – that of deputy head at Peel Clothworkers, a post she has successfully fulfilled for the past three and a half years.
 
Mrs Jackson’s personal interests include ballroom dancing, swimming, theatre and restaurants. She enjoys family life in Peel with her husband and young daughter.
 
Mrs Jackson said: ‘Peel is a marvellous place to live and work. I love the Manx culture and heritage of the community and have thoroughly enjoyed Island teaching with many excellent colleagues, great children and supportive parents and governors.
 
‘Having taught at Clothworkers’ for the past few years, I am delighted to be taking on the role of headteacher, building on strengths and continuing to educate Peel’s youngsters in a tradition which dates back 400 years in the city.’
 
Peel Clothworkers’ School has 328 children on the register.
