Look Good…Feel Better

by isleofman.com 21st February 2013
“Look Good…Feel Better” is a free, non-medical programme dedicated to helping those who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other cancer treatments feel better and look good.

Many people going through treatment do need help and support to improve their well being and the Look Good...Feel Better programme is designed precisely with this in mind.  It is essentially a pampering therapy treatment carried out in an informal and relaxed environment and is designed to be fun and boost confidence.

The “Look Good...Feel Better” team of volunteers offer a warm welcome to patients living and coping with cancer. The two week programme can teach participants how to manage the visible side-effects of treatments, increase their confidence, self-esteem and learn how to relax and enjoy life!

Week one offers a twelve step approach to skin care and make-up and week two provides the essential pampering that includes colour analysis, massage, manicure, and hair or wig styling advice.

The programme has been running since May 2012 and already 56 people have benefited from it. One of the ladies who attended said “The difference was amazing… it gives you confidence.”

The programme runs on a Thursday evening over 14th and 21st March; 11th and 18th July, 19th and 26th September, 21st and 28th November. For more information please contact Wendy Smith, Day Unit Manager, the Scholl Centre, Hospice Isle of Man, Strang, Douglas, on 647426.
